Engagement Grade: Gender Equality

This fund earns an engagement grade for gender equality. This means the fund is recognized as a leader in advancing equity and justice through active shareholder engagement, community and stakeholder engagement, and fostering impact. The fund’s managers use their influence as investors to press portfolio companies to strengthen workplace equity, disclose meaningful diversity data, and adopt policies that promote inclusion. In addition to direct dialogue and proxy voting, the fund integrates these social justice considerations into its investment process — avoiding or divesting from companies that consistently lag on DEI performance or fail to respond to investor concerns.

Gender equality ratings are calculated using data from the Equileap Gender Equality Scorecard from Equileap.

Member of USSIF
This fund is a member of a sustainable and responsible investing group, and has a posted policy on their consideration of diversity and equal employment opportunity policies and practices relating to employees, company ownership or contractors.
Combination of Positive and Restricted/Exclusionary Strategies - Adasina was founded by a queer, Black woman, and is majority-owned and operated by women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Adasina's poor rating on As You Sow's gender equality report card is an unfortunate outcome of a difference in underlying methodology. As You Sow's analysis is based on company data sourced from Equileap which focuses on company policies (what companies say they will do), but Adasina's analysis focuses primarily on company practices (what companies actually do). Adasina applies gender justice screens to a universe of publicly traded companies through metrics for sexual harassment, reproductive rights, board representation, and LGBTQ+ equal employment opportunities, ensuring that companies in Adasina's Investable Universe are not being flagged for issues related to these topics.  More
